The image on the front cover is a colourful representation of a message encoded in the Baudot code, invented at the end of the 19th century for use in telegraphy and punched-tape teleprinters. It's supposed to read X&Y but due to an error it actually says X9Y! (The five columns can be read as binary numbers: 10111 is X, 11011 is shift, 00011 is 9 and 10101 is Y.)
