Weedie Morris started in on drums at nine, and as a self-taught percussionist played with a Navy band for three years during World War II. At war's end, he studied piano theory and arranging for two years at New Orleans' Grunwald School of Music. Among the bands he's worked with are Buddy Johnson's, George Hudson's, and Illinois Jacquet's.
