British classical (orchestral and chamber) double bass player, professor, transcriber and author, born in July 1952.
He studied at the [l459222]. Before becoming a full-time student, he was a member of the
National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain. After leaving college, he freelanced, eventually settling with the
New Philharmonia Orchestra (for orchestral work) and
Philomusica Of London (for chamber orchestra playing). Between 1976 and 1979, he held the Principal chair of the
BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra after which, he returned to London and the
Philharmonia Orchestra. In 1981, he was a founding member of
London Musici and the short-lived The London Double Bass Ensemble. In the late 1980s, he begun teaching at the [l290263] eventually becoming Professor of Double Bass. In 1990, he succeeded Gerald Drucker as Principal Double Bass of the Philharmonia Orchestra. Member of the
Corinthian Chamber Orchestra and the
Cerddorfa Dinas Powys Orchestra. He holds a teaching post at the [l1379071].
