Austrian playwright and writer, born in 1942, well-known for his avant-garde and controversal novels, theatre plays and subjects. Apart of being the awarded with the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature he has received numerous literary awards such as the Georg-Büchner-Preis (1973), Kafka-Preis (1979) and the Grillparzer-Preis (1983). In 2006 he was awarded with the Heinrich-Heine-Preis but refused to accept it due to a controversy about his political views on Serbia's role in the Yugoslav Wars (1991-1999) and his support for Slobodan Milosevic. Currently lives in Chaville in France.
