Timothy grew up in Southern California, sang for the L.A. rock band Life and distributed records out of his car for a local wholesaler. He later opened Urban Renewal Records in Seattle, and in 1987, he began working at Starbucks, where his diverse musical selections attracted corporate attention. Subsequently, he produced numerous mixes and compilations under the Starbucks brand.
