(b.1948) England, Chris Judge Smith dropped Chris from his name and in 1967 co-founded
Van Der Graaf Generator. He played the drums until
Guy Evans joined the band after which he provided backing vocals and played assorted gadgets including a typewriter. He left the band in 1968 and since then has worked on his solo career including writing songs for his own solo albums, musicals, opera's, directing a short film and working on the music for the TV show
Not The Nine O'clock News. He also developed a new form of narrative rock music called
Songstory in order to
'fulfil the personal need I felt to find a new and artistically satisfying way to tell extended stories using words and music' and since 2000 released three pieces of music under the 'Songstory' tag featuring performances by many well known and talented musicians as
Peter Hammill, David Jackson, Hugh Banton, John Ellis, Lene Lovich, René van Commenée, Max Hutchinson, Arthur Brown, Michael Ward-Bergeman, Ricardo Odriozola and many others.
